The importance of voting
Over the past few weeks, I have received several texts regarding the upcoming elections.  These texts have asked questions ranging from asking whom I am voting for, when I’m voting, where I’m voting and then just reminders to vote in the first place.  I received two of them today alone.  By now, let’s just say it has gotten somewhat annoying.

However, it does bring up a very interesting topic in modern politics.  So many younger adults are completely disinterested and not informed on politics it’s astounding.  This would include high school students, college students and some people who have even graduated college.  High school students can get somewhat of a pass because a majority of them aren’t of voting age.  But still, when they do become of age to vote, they should be able to make an informed and educated decision.

The sad part is that so many people (both young and mature) do not use their constitutional right to vote.  In my opinion, that really is a tragedy.  It seems like people don’t realize the impact voting can have.  People may say, “one vote doesn’t change anything,” but if everyone changes their attitude about this and participates, one vote can mean quite a lot.  Voting gives citizens the right to express their beliefs and try to stand up for what they believe in and what would be best for not just them, but for their community and country.  Electing representatives, from a local level all the way up to the president, has an impact on everyone.

For these reasons, I can’t really complain about this service or whatever sending me text messages reminding me to vote.  It’s good that people are being reminded, because so many don’t vote.  All I ask is if you don’t vote, do not, I repeat, do not complain about the job a politician does, no matter how horrible they may be.  If someone doesn’t participate then they have absolutely no right to complain, even if they are negatively impacted by a politician’s decision.  That is, if they are of voting age.  In the past presidential election, I used my right to vote as every citizen should, but regrettably, many don’t.

I hope more people decide to exercise their right to vote.  It’s why our constitution was designed the way it was and what makes, and what makes the United States the greatest country in the world.
