Junior
Year…a few early observations
Quite often, junior year is
referred to as the hardest year of school.
At least that is what I have heard.
Last year, when I was a sophomore, all the juniors who were in my classes
and who were friends of mine constantly complained about their workload. I purposely took a lot of classes as a
sophomore (mostly general education classes) in order to have a lighter
workload as a junior. I am taking fewer
classes, and I can’t really complain so far about them being too difficult.
As I’m now entering the third week of school, something that
really doesn’t seem possible, I must say that living in an apartment is already
more enjoyable than living in a dorm room, the main reason being there’s more
space and more freedom. As a freshman
and a junior you have to be on the ONU meal plan, but now that I live in the
apartments, I can cook my own food.
There really are so many more options.
Granted, I had no idea how to cook before a few weeks ago, so it was
kind of baptism by fire and a lot of experimenting and trial and error. Luckily now I’m a little more comfortable
with it. I’m sure many people have
experiences like this. Living on my own
has been a fun and trying experience at the same time. The only real problem is that I’ve already
come down with a cold, but entering flu season, this was probably inevitable.
Ian,
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting to hear your input on junior year. I am a sophomore here, so it is great to hear your insight on the workload and apartment lifestyle. I totally agree that more freedom at school, with having your own spacious apartment and not having to eat on a meal plan, makes it so much easier to enjoy school. I honestly despise being on the meal plan, even on the Greek meal plan with 8 meals per week. I am interesting to see if your workload gets any harder throughout the school year! You make it sound like Junior year is the year to be excited for!
Ian, I hope you taught yourself how to cook soup to combat the cold you have! I love living in an apartment, especially since I don't have to pay for a meal plan through ONU that I won't even use. I think junior year is a big year because we know we are that much closer to graduating and getting big kid jobs. If you ever need help cooking, I can help you out! I do a lot of trial and error like you, but I haven't set anything on fire yet. That's a plus for me!
